Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be defined as the field of study of Intelligent Agents, or a system’s ability to correctly interpret external data, to learn from such data, and to use those learnings to achieve specific goals and tasks through flexible adaptation, or something that enables machines to learn, think, execute and problem solve like a human being or more colloquially, the term “artificial intelligence” is often used to describe machines (or computers) that mimic cognitive functions that humans associate with the human mind, such as learning and problem solving. A quip in Tesler’s Theorem says “AI is whatever hasn’t been done yet”. Artificial intelligence was founded as an academic discipline in 1955. The field was founded on the assumption that human intelligence “can be so precisely described that a machine can be made to simulate it”.

Smart machines think alike human beings and have necessary memory built in so that, it can outsmart human beings. So it would seem that AI is a very powerful technology, and like other powerful technologies would like to be used by big corporations to boost productivity, make their products more user friendly or intelligent and in-turn gain customers. So let’s see some of the top companies and how they are implementing AI in their products and business…

Google:

Alphabet is Google’s parent company. Waymo, the company’s self-driving technology division, began as a project at Google. Today, Waymo wants to bring self-driving technology to the world not only to move people around but to reduce the number of crashes. The company, which is ahead in the self-driving car race by most metrics, confidently asserts that its cars have the most advanced brains on the road today. That’s thanks to a head start in AI investment, some strategic acquisitions by sister company Google, and a close working relationship with the tech giant’s in-house team of AI researchers.

Google signaled its commitment to deep learning when it acquired DeepMind. Not only did the system learn how to play 49 different Atari games, but the AlphaGo program was also the first to beat a professional player at the game of Go.

“AI is no different from the climate”, “You can’t get safety by having one country or a set of countries working on it. You need a global framework.” — Sundar Pichai CEO of Google.

Amazon:

They collect a lot of data about each person’s buying habits and have such confidence in how the data they collect helps them recommend items to its customers and now predict what they need even before they need it by using predictive analytics.

Amazon also has Amazon GO stores in which unlike other stores, there is no checkout required. The stores have artificial intelligence technology that tracks what items you pick up and then automatically charges you for those items through the Amazon Go app on your phone.

The giant American e-commerce retailer builds everything on AI because AI solves shoppers’ problems which in turn supports Amazon’s customer-centric approach.

Apple

Apple Acquires More AI Startups Than Any Other Tech Company.

“We can achieve both great artificial intelligence and great privacy standards. It’s not only a possibility, it is a responsibility. In the pursuit of artificial intelligence, we should not sacrifice humanity, creativity, and ingenuity that define our human intelligence.” — Tim Cook CEO of Apple

Supporting this the best example of Apple’s approach is the new handwashing feature on the Apple Watch, which uses AI to identify when you’re scrubbing your mitts and starts a timer. It’s a small and silly feature, but one that asks little of the user while delivering a useful function.

Facebook

They use DeepText, a text understanding engine, to automatically understand and interpret the content and emotional sentiment of the thousands of posts in multiple languages that its users publish every second.

And, with DeepFace, the social media giant can automatically identify you in a photo that is shared on its platform. In fact, this technology is so good, it’s better at facial recognition than humans. Which cements the statement that AI is more powerful.

Microsoft

Microsoft is of the leading user and provider of AI. They are incorporating intelligent capabilities to all its products and services, including Cortana, Skype, Bing, and Office 365, and are one of the world’s biggest AI as a Service (AIaaS) vendors.

Microsoft, one of the most valuable companies on this planet, is heavily focusing on AI as the go-to technology for their future success.

IBM

It’s been more than 20 years since IBM’s Deep Blue computer became the first to conquer a human world chess champion. The company followed up that feat with another man vs. machine competitions, including its Watson computer, winning the game show Jeopardy. The latest artificial intelligence accomplishment for IBM is Project Debater. This AI is a cognitive computing engine that competed against two professional debaters and formulated human-like arguments.

And also very interestingly IBM artificial intelligence technology is now 95 percent accurate in predicting workers who are planning to leave their jobs.

That’s all folks 😊. See you later👏
